Bats are ultimately a great addition to a neighborhood because they help control the insect population. At least that’s the case for most of North America where we’re most familiar with brown bats and a few other insectivore species.
But let’s get real: bats scare us. Oh sure, maybe not every single one of us. But on the whole, we associate bats with vampires – there are vampire bats, after all! They’re used in horror movies and Halloween decorations to increase our fear levels. Maybe they get a bad rap, but they can really give us the heebie jeebies!
And because of that, it makes sense to add them to our Halloween decorations! Whether you want something seriously scary or more whimsical, there are great bat decorations to add to your home for the Fall tradition.
We found some great bat decorations that you can add to your home for parties or just to add to the mood!
Bristol Novelty Hanging Bat
What an impression this piece will make! At nearly 13 inches tall, this hanging bat is guaranteed to startle unsuspecting visitors. Hang it from your front porch roof to shock visitors, or add it to your interior decorations as a great way to spice things up.
It’s a rubbery material and feels hollow, at least in the middle area. But it’s still sturdy. And it looks great!
At this size, it’s far bigger than the bat you may see flying around at dusk. It’s actually about the size of a fruit bat. But many guests will surely expect it to transform into Count Dracula soon!
Bat Garland – 5 Foot Garland
For a more whimsical look, you might love this string of cartoon-like bats. At 5 feet long, it’s great to hang from the mantle or across a wide doorway.
This is fantastic if you don’t go in for the scary vibe of Halloween. It’s also great for parties for younger kids, since it’s more fun than fearful.
The bats are made of felt. That does mean you have to be careful with their care. But if you store them carefully, you’ll be able to get at least a few years out of them. For the price, that’s fantastic.
Each individual bat measures 5″ high. The pieces of felt and the eyes are held in place with hot glue, and the occasional user found some of those stray hot glue strings they had to pull off. But that’s easy to do and causes no damage to the piece itself.
Halloween String Lights
If you want to add a spooky light to your holiday (or general) decorations, these bat lights go great! We admit, the purple color is a bit strange for bats, although it’s hard to think of a truly suitable color. And it does go decently with the spirit of spookiness.
This is a 15-foot string of LED lights. Forty individual bat lights are on the string.
You get some extra flexibility with these, since you don’t have to plug them in. They’re powered by three AA batteries (as usual, not included!). They also feature 8 different modes, including chasing, blinking, sequential and all the other standards.
The lights are designed to be water resistant – that doesn’t mean you can soak them in a tub, but they will hold up fine to the rain.
Some reviewers talked about other styles of lights from this company, although they must be available at different links. But we’re sure they’re equally as great if you can find them!
Bats on Cobweb Lace Valences
These hangings look great in front of the fireplace or over the valence. Lace-like material is used to create a classy yet scary feel reminiscent of a certain castle in Transylvania.
Your order contains two pieces, each of which measures 37″ by 23″. The bats have wings outstretched to appear to be in full flight and ready to attack!!
The pieces are made of polyester.
48 Piece Plastic Bat Set
Sumind is the company behind this big set of bat images in various shapes and sizes. When you want to decorate a lot of walls or windows with “flying mice”, you’ll love this set!
These are small features, so they work best in groups. But that swarming behavior is one of scariest things about bats, especially when we see them flying out of a cave!
The attached sticky pads do a good job of holding them onto flat surfaces – they’ll work basically anywhere that suction cups will.
Half of the pieces measure 3.5 by 0.8 inches. There are also 8 in each of these sizes: 6.3 x 1.6 inch, 4.7 x 1.2 inch, and 3.2 x 1.6 inch. So you really get a nice variety to create your own design.
Wrapping It Up
Bats are scary but they’re cool too, especially when Halloween rolls around. You’ll love them as part of your decor, whether you’re just a fan of the animal or love holiday. These are some of our favorite items – feel free to add yours in the comments!
