Few animals contribute so much to the joy of Christmas as birds! Their bright colors and wonderful songs bring joy throughout the year, but especially during the holidays. That’s why they’re a popular feature as decorations on Christmas cards, ornaments, and other favorites of the season
It seems like birds have always been part of Christmas tradition. And it’s not one type of feathered friend, either. Cardinals, robins, and chickadees constantly appear as part of holiday decorations. But so do peacocks and other more “exotic” birds!
And what more appropriate place for a bird than a tree – especially a Christmas tree! We fondly remember ornaments from our grandmother’s Christmas trees. She had felt ones she made herself as well as blown glass ones she bought.
Even though that was decades ago, there are still so many wonderful bird Christmas ornaments available today. We’ve found a few that really awakened the holiday spirit in us – and we hope you like them, too!
WaaHome Cardinal Christmas Tree Ornaments
A long tradition holds that if you see a cardinal, a departed loved one is near. And that’s a very appropriate image for the Christmas season, when we’re happy but also sometimes missing those who’ve left us even more than normal.
This ornament features a beautifully painted cardinal along with an appropriate caption: “When cardinals appear, angels are near.” It’s a great reminder for the season!
The ornament is made of acrylic with printing on both sides. It’s 3 1/2 inches wide and 3 inches high, and forms the shape of a heart. The text and image show on both sides.
The ornament is semi-transparent, so it’s not good to use in a window or in front of a bright light; the image and text on the other side will show through. However, it looks great when hanging on a tree!
Hallmark Keepsake Christmas Ornament 2018 Year Dated, Cozy Critters Blue Jay
This beautiful blue jay will look great hanging in your tree – and it even brings its own branch!
This is a Hallmark ornament, and is dated 2018. So it’s great if you’re missing that year or if you want to start collecting this beautiful series. Or just get this one – it’s one of our favorites!
Blue jays are definitely a winter bird, but this one feels a bit too cold and is wrapped up in a scarf. His puffy little cheeks are so cute! We love the fine detailing of the entire piece, right down to the pine cones.
The ornament measures roughly 2 inches wide, 2 1/2 inches tall, and 2 inches deep. It comes in the original Hallmark box, which is great if you want to give this as a gift. The ornament itself is made of plastic.
Cardinals Clip-on Christmas Christmas Ornament – 12 Pack
The bright red of the cardinal stands out wonderfully against the snow – and also against the green of your Christmas tree! Even if you go for a white or metallic tree, you’ll love how wonderfully the cardinals look against them.
These ornaments are simple but let you add a lot of color to spruce up your Blue Spruce – or your Douglas fir, or whichever tree you choose.
A clip where the bird’s feet would be lets you attach it easily to any branch.
The birds are made of foam with fake feathers attached. They measure 5 1/2 inches by 2.4 inches.
Lovebirds Christmas Ornament – Especially for Newlyweds!
No, you don’t have to be named Sarah and Logan! This customizable wooden ornament lets you remember your first Christmas together in a very special way.
The ornaments are made of wood and are laser engraved with your first names and the date of your wedding. And nothing matches the beauty of having something so personal and special! There’s no extra charge for the customization, and there’s a button right on the Amazon page to do it.
The ornament is about 3 inches by 3 inches. It’s about a tenth of an inch thick.
Peacock Ornament (Set of 2)
Peacocks are absolutely beautiful! Their brilliant colors and long tail feathers make them a favorite across the world.
We’re not sure why there’s a connection between Christian beliefs and the peacock, but we know it’s an ancient one! The peacock appears in ancient Christian art as far back as the 3rd century AD. They’re associated with royalty, immortality, and the all-seeing eye of God (ok, that last part is obvious, basedo on the large black circles on the peacock’s tail feathers).
These ornaments are made of acrylic, but from a distant look like they’re needlework. They’re about 7 inches long and 6 1/2 inches high. Both sides are decorated.
