Trying to create a country farm feel for your kitchen? You can’t go wrong when you add decor featuring chickens! They’re so associated with rural life, waking up early – and especially breakfast!
They may remind us of a long-ago time when we lived or traveled to a more peaceful place. Or you might just love the idea of having these aviary companions around. It’s not uncommon nowadays for families with just a little space to raise their own chickens, even if they never lived on a farm.
So roosters and hens make a lot of sense in the kitchen. And one of the cutest ways we’ve found to incorporate them into the environment is with salt and pepper shakers! We’ve found some awesome ones and hope you love them, too.
Old-Fashioned Water Pump with Chicken Salt & Pepper Shaker Set
Thinking back about the olden days can make us all nostalgic. This holder for salt and pepper shakers features a water pump, a rooster and a chick along with a sunflower in full bloom. It’s an attractive piece that reminds us of days long ago. (We love the look of the pump, for sure, although we’re eternally grateful for indoor plumbing!)
This piece includes glass salt and pepper shakers that fit into “wooden” buckets alongside the pump. It’s made of cast resin and hand-painted.
The piece is 6 inches wide, 4 inches deep and 7 inches high, making it an attractive centerpiece for the table. It weighs a sturdy 1.4 pounds.
Rooster Family Salt and Pepper Shaker Base
The whole family is here! This piece features a rooster, hen, and two chicks guarding your salt and pepper. The rooster sits on a log while the hen tries to keep the chicks in check down below. On the post are directions for where to put the salt and pepper. The shakers, in turn, sit in two metal buckets.
It’s a cast resin piece measuring 6 1/2″ wide and 7 inches tall. It’s about 4 inches deep. It’s hand-painted so the coloring can vary slightly, but we were really happy with ours. It weighs 1.4 pounds.
It’s a great-looking piece for your own table or as a gift!
Anyone who’s walked around a barnyard knows not to mess with the chickens. Sure, they love to be fed. But make them uncomfortable and they WILL go after you.
This rooster looks like he’s guarding your salt and pepper as fiercely as he’d guard the henhouse. He’s got a wing wrapped around each shaker. We just love the colors on this figure – they’re so rich and bright, capturing our mental image of what a rooster “should” look like.
This resin figure measures 7.5 inches tall and about the same width. It’s about 5.5 inches deep and weighs 1.2 pounds.
Brown Egg Salt and Pepper Shakers
Like some salt and pepper on your eggs? How about IN your eggs? We’re featuring chickens of all ages here, including the yet-to-hatch ones!
These are great salt and peppers shakers formed like the brown eggs the farmer used to bring to our neighborhood. They rest on a holder that’s shaped like an egg carton.
Each egg is about 2 by 2 by 2.5 inches, and the eggs and holder together measure 5 by 2 by 3.
The color doesn’t seem to quite match the picture – the ones we’ve seen are a lighter brown and not quite like real eggs. But they work well and are easy to refill.
Eat Chicken Eat Beef – Salt and Pepper Shakers
It’s a war of species – we’ve seen this done before with Bugs and Daffy on Looney Toons, but now it’s cow and chicken that are each encouraging us to prefer the other for a healthy meal!
Each figure holds up a sign – the cow’s says “Eat chicken” while the chicken, of course, wants us to “Eat beef.” Who wins and who loses? Both taste great with a bit of salt and pepper!
Next to each other, these are nearly 8 inches across. They’re each about 3 inches tall, too. Not huge, but a good size both for their function and to be decorative at the same time.
These are ceramic salt and pepper shakers. Magnets in their elbows help keep them together when not in use.
The salt shaker is the cow.
Wrapping It Up
You can crow about your new chicken salt and pepper shakers all you want, but your friends will only truly appreciate them when they see them up close. We love these for the rustic, quaint feel they bring to the kitchen! We hope you’ll feel the same way.
